So, you think word-searches are too easy? Beneath you? Well, THINK
AGAIN!!! I have hidden 10 puzzle related words in the search
below. As per usual, they may be forward, backward, up, down, or
diagonal. You know the rules. I then decided to treat you do an
extra surprise. I've encoded the word search grid! That's right,
to find the words you must first decode the grid! Tough? I thought
so too, so here's a hint. If any given letter appears n times in
the encoded grid, then it will appear either 0 or n times in the
decoded grid. (There are 2 Ls in the chart below, so there will
be 0 or 2 Ls in the decoded grid.)

Z E J H D X I E C
D N F T I C K X X
D X G E B L Y E B
H X K G O K L T S
E P E X S C C K I
B D O I E X P Q T
O I U Z H K O T H

CRYPTIC, DEVILRY, LOGIC, MATH, MAZE, PANTHERA, PUZZLE, RIDDLE,
SEARCH, WORDIE

When you've circled all the words, the remaining letters will (when
decoded) spell the answer to this pun:
Q When is a game not a game?
A  When t-- ---- -- -----. (I couldn't fit the first t into the
puzzle! Note that the t does not have to be decoded.)

For your answer write the last three words of the pun's answer,
seperated by commas, then another comma, then the way you'd encode
my name, ASHER. Use all capitals, please. Give this a try, you
may find that it's easier then it looks!

Express 999 as the sum of two positive integers, X and Y,
such that Z = sod(X expressed in base 9) + sod(Y expressed
in base 6) is as low as possible. Recall that sod(x) is
the sum of the digits of x.

To give an example, if X=555 and Y=444, then
Z = sod(676) + sod(2020) = 23.  This is far from optimal.

Simply give X to solve this problem. And, hey, you've got
a whole week to solve this problem -- why not try solving
it WITHOUT the computer.... :-)

Answer:
X=747 and Y=252 gives Z = sod(1020) + sod(1100) = 5.

What is the value of the 1997'th term?

Answer:
63. Let the value of the t'th term t(n) be k. The number of
terms with values < k is k(k-1)/2. We therefore have

k(k-1)/2 + 1 < n < k(k-1)/2 + k

k^2 - k + 2  < 2n < k^2 + k

(k - 1/2)^2 + 7/4 < 2n < (k + 1/2)^2 - 1/4

k - 1/2 < sqrt(2n) < k + 1/2

k = int(sqrt(2n) + 1/2))

As t(n) = k we finaly get t(1997) = 63.
